The
National Council on Patient Information and Education (NCPIE)
has designated each October as "Talk About Prescriptions"
month. The theme for TAP month 2001 is "Educate Before You
Medicate".
Conlin'
s Pharmacy, along with the NCPIE, encourage you to get the
most out of your health care by staying informed about your
prescription medications.
What
You Can Do:
To
get the most out of your prescriptions medication and prevent
problems, it is important for you to be an active participant
in your health care team by becoming a part of every decision
about your health care. Some specific recommendations:
-
Make sure that your doctor knows about everything you are
taking, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines,
vitamins and other dietary supplements.
- Make
sure your doctor knows about any allergies and adverse reactions
you have had to medicines.
- Ask
your pharmacist for information about possible side effects,
potential drug interactions, and whether you should avoid
any foods, drinks or activities while taking the medication.
- Ask
your pharmacist for help in understanding dosage instructions,
including when to take the medicine and measuring liquid
dosage.
