Talk About Prescriptions

The National Council on Patient Information and Education (NCPIE) has designated each October as "Talk About Prescriptions" month. The theme for TAP month 2001 is "Educate Before You Medicate".

Conlin' s Pharmacy, along with the NCPIE, encourage you to get the most out of your health care by staying informed about your prescription medications.

What You Can Do:

To get the most out of your prescriptions medication and prevent problems, it is important for you to be an active participant in your health care team by becoming a part of every decision about your health care. Some specific recommendations:

  • Make sure that your doctor knows about everything you are taking, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and other dietary supplements.
  • Make sure your doctor knows about any allergies and adverse reactions you have had to medicines.
  • Ask your pharmacist for information about possible side effects, potential drug interactions, and whether you should avoid any foods, drinks or activities while taking the medication.
  • Ask your pharmacist for help in understanding dosage instructions, including when to take the medicine and measuring liquid dosage.
